Madison, WI – Yesterday, State Representative Paul Tittl (R-Manitowoc) presented legislative citations to both the Roncalli High School Varsity Boys Basketball Team and Head Coach Joe Garceau following their second state championship.

“It was an honor to award the Roncalli Jets with a well-deserved commendation congratulating them on their hard work and second state championship,” said Rep. Tittl.

The Roncalli Jets finished with an incredible 27-2 record during the 2021-22 season, and wins title Eastern Wisconsin Conference champions. They qualified to compete in the 106th State Basketball Championship as the second-seeded team held at the Kohl Center in Madison. During the championship game, the Roncalli Jets’ strong defense held the Milwaukee Novas to 24% shooting in the game. Furthermore, Jets players Luke Pautz, Reece Stangel, Ryan Fischer and Brayden Yanda all scored double-digits for their team.

With blood, sweat and tears, the Roncalli Jets won the Division 4 State Championship with a 55-45 victory over top-seeded Milwaukee Academy of Sciences on March 19 and brought home the Jets’ second championship in their ninth, state tournament appearance.

The growth and involvement at this age that counts the most in building a solid foundation for not only sports but our nation’s health and welfare.” Said Rep. Tittl.

Coach Garceau was an integral part of the Jets’ 2022 state championship. It was important to recognize his leadership throughout the year as he was named WIAA State Basketball Division Four “Coach of the Year” by the Associated Press.

Joe Garceau became head coach of the Roncalli High School Boys Basketball team in 2015. Upon graduation from Manitowoc Roncalli in 2002, he earned a master’s degree in education from Winona State University and began teaching mathematics, technology, and physical education. Prior to his current role, Mr. Garceau was head coach of the Roncalli boys freshman team for four years.

Since assuming the role of head varsity basketball coach, Joe Garceau has compiled a record of one-hundred-thirty-four wins and forty-five losses. What is more, he led the Jets to conference championships in 2019, 2021, and 2022. Under his auspices, the Roncalli Jets Boys Basketball team made four trips to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys’ Basketball Tournament. In 2020, the Roncalli Jets won their sectional, but COVID-19 precipitated a cancellation of the state tournament.

The win gave Roncalli and Coach Garceau their second state championship in five seasons, having also winning the championship in 2012.

The 25th Assembly District includes portions of Calumet and Manitowoc Counties.
