MADISON – Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly met to vote on a list of bills that are out of touch with the priorities of the people of Wisconsin. It was Rep. Greta Neubauer’s first session as Assembly Democratic Leader. State Representative Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) issued the following statement:

“The legislation we had before us in the Wisconsin State Assembly today was not introduced to improve the safety and wellbeing of Wisconsinites– but to satisfy the political priorities of Wisconsin Republicans. More than 80% of Wisconsinites support a background check on every gun purchase. Instead of supporting popular public safety measures like this, Wisconsin Republicans want to bring firearms into school grounds and sacred places of worship.

“Furthermore, rather than addressing historic unemployment lows (3%), COVID-19’s impact on Wisconsin families, or the dire need for affordable and accessible childcare, Republicans today turned to undermining child labor protections in an attempt to solve Wisconsin’s workforce shortage.

“Assembly Democratic Leader Rep. Neubauer displayed strong leadership by highlighting common sense initiatives that would positively impact the daily lives of all Wisconsin residents. I applaud her commitment to the people of Wisconsin, and look forward to her continued leadership as the legislative session continues.”
