[Milwaukee, WI] – To kick off this petition and the formation of Reproductive Justice Action – Milwaukee (RJA-M), our first rally and march will take place on Sunday July 17th at 12:00pm. The rally & march will start from Zeidler Union Square at 301 W Michigan St Milwaukee, WI 53203.
RJA-M is a brand new grassroots organization in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We are focused on fighting for Reproductive Justice for all humans, and standing in opposition of the system(s) that deny human rights to any person. Formed under the umbrella of Milwaukee Alliance against Racist and Political Repression (MAARPR), RJA-M is committed to insisting that the county of Milwaukee gives its firm support to all those seeking equitable reproductive care. We are petitioning the county board of supervisors to refuse prosecution and dismiss all charges against any provider who performs abortion services within the county. Additionally, we demand that law enforcement within Milwaukee County shall refuse to apprehend any provider for performing said services. RJA-M demands that Milwaukee become a safe haven for abortion access in the state of Wisconsin.
Furthermore, President Biden has made an executive order with the goal of protecting reproductive care following the overturn of Roe v. Wade. While it was a step in the right direction, unfortunately, this executive order does nothing for us in Wisconsin. The state ban on abortions under statute 940.04 still stands and the executive order has no effect on it. Providers are still prohibited from giving care to patients under threat of a class H felony charge. We must work to ensure that the state legislature not only overturns the archaic 1849 ban on abortions, but also codifies access to abortion services for all Wisconsinites.
