OSHKOSH – During last night’s debate with Senator Ron Johnson and Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, the moderators directly asked Barnes at what point he thinks life should be protected. Again, the Lt. Gov. refused to answer the question – because as a proponent of abortion up to the moment of birth he doesn’t think the point exists.

“Lt. Gov. Barnes’ position on abortion is as extreme as it gets – supporting legal abortion up until the moment of birth,” said Ben Voelkel, Senior Advisor for the Ron Johnson campaign. “He refused to answer the direct question in last night’s debate because he is an extremist all the way down the line: he wants to abolish ICE, he wants to defund the police, he wants to let violent criminals walk free, and on the issue of abortion he supports allowing the killing of babies up to the moment of birth.”

Last night’s debate follows multiple other interviews where reporters tried to help Barnes define when a life begins. Barnes has repeatedly refused to acknowledge a “timeline” he would view as acceptable because he supports abortion up until the moment of birth – a truly radical position. Senator Johnson supports exceptions to any law for victims of rape, incest, and to protect the life of the mother. Ron’s plan on abortion would allow the people of Wisconsin to decide, through a referendum, on what is a profoundly moral issue.
