Madison, WI – On Saturday, August 13, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office will host “Gift Cards for Guns” event at the Alliant Energy Center from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. This event allows citizens to safely surrender a firearm in exchange for a gift card. State Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison) released the following statement:

“We all deserve to live free of fear of gun violence. I really appreciate the Dane County Sheriff’s Office providing this event to our community so that folks may safely turn over their firearms.

“Voluntary programs like this help save lives. This no-questions-asked event respects people’s privacy and safety first and foremost, as folks even have the option to turn in their firearm anonymously. I am grateful that the Dane County Sheriff’s Office has taken this initiative to prioritize communal safety.”

Participant rules for the “Gift Cards for Guns” event includes:

  • Firearms must be transported unloaded, and inside the truck/cargo area of your vehicle.
  • Firearms should be either wrapped, cased, or boxed.
  • Magazines and ammunition must be in a separate area of the vehicle (i.e., back seat).
  • Firearms must be functional. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office will dispose of broken, non-functional firearms, but gift cards will only be provided for firearms which are in working condition.
  • You must remain in your vehicle while at the Alliant Energy center.
  • Please do not bring children or pets to the event.
