GREEN BAY– Senator Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay) released the following statement after attending the groundbreaking event for Georgia-Pacific’s $500 million expansion to their Broadway Mill in Green Bay:
“I was pleased to be invited to attend this phenomenal event in Green Bay today to kick-off Georgia-Pacific’s Broadway Mill expansion. This $500 million investment into our region shows that Northeast Wisconsin’s paper industry continues to be strong and that business leaders believe it will be strong for decades to come. With many options for investment outside of our region, our state, or even our country, I cannot thank Georgia-Pacific enough for deciding to invest in an expansion right here in Green Bay. Georgia-Pacific’s decision not only is anticipated to create 100 new jobs on top of their 800 existing employees, but it will support many local construction and supply businesses over the anticipated year or longer process to build the new facilities.
“Wisconsin’s paper and forestry products industry supports 35,000 careers, $22 billion in economic activity, and $248 million in state and local taxes annually. At a time when we’ve unfortunately seen other plants throughout the state closing, paper and forest products in the greater Green Bay area continues to be a strong industry with Green Bay Packaging’s expansion recently opening, Georgia-Pacific beginning their expansion today, and, among other notable milestones, Sofidel celebrating their tenth anniversary in our region last week.”
