Madison, WI – State Senator Dan Feyen (R-Fond du Lac) released the following statement after Governor Tony Evers’ 2022 State of the State Address:
“Yesterday we heard Governor Evers say the State of the State is strong, while he took credit for Republican accomplishments over the past year.
“Although the Governor claims he made good on his “promise” to lower middle-class taxes by 15%, in reality the governor proposed over a billion dollars in new taxes and fees in his budget proposal. This led Republicans to completely rewrite his budget in order to pass the historic $480 million in tax cuts, while still funding our priorities like education, transportation, healthcare, and broadband.
“The Governor proudly took credit for the state’s strong fiscal standing; touting Wisconsin’s $3.8 billion surplus and the more than $1.7 billion in the state’s rainy day fund. These enormous numbers are a culmination of the last decade of strong fiscal management led by Republicans.
“Governor Evers also went out of his way to fault businesses for inflation, when it’s clear the economic policies and leadership at the top of his own party are really to blame.
“As we move into 2022, Republicans will continue to focus on bolstering our economy, raising paychecks by taxing less, and prudent fiscal responsibility.”
