MADISON – Today, Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg) issued the following statement regarding the announcement that Senator Kathy Bernier (R-Chippewa Falls) will not seek re-election to the State Senate after 25 years of state and local service:

“Senator Bernier has been a tremendous asset to our caucus, and I thank Kathy for her 25 years of public service. Her expertise, knowledge, and good humor will be missed in the Senate.

“This session, Kathy served on the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee and was an integral part of a historic budget process which included more than $3 billion in tax cuts. She also led the charge to secure additional mental health resources for northwestern Wisconsin—a mission she fought for on behalf of her constituents. Her legacy of public service has left an indelible mark on her district and our state.

“I congratulate Kathy on all she has accomplished during her time in the Legislature and wish her all the best as she enjoys time with family in this next chapter of her life.”

Senator Devin LeMahieu represents the 9th Senate District, which includes portions of Sheboygan, Manitowoc, and Calumet Counties. He serves as Majority Leader for the Wisconsin State Senate.
