MADISON, WI – Sen. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) issued a statement following the Governor’s proposal to spend the state’s projected revenue surplus:

“The Governor’s knee-jerk reaction to a projected surplus is to spend all of the money, even years before the books have closed.

I, on the other hand, am thrilled that we have a projected surplus to cushion Wisconsin when all of the federal funding pouring into our state abruptly ends in the midst of tremendous inflation.

I suppose, in an election year, there is motivation to hand out cash to voters. But I think we need to continue to be responsible and prepare for the future.

The Governor may be thinking about November. I believe we should be looking long-term.”
