Madison, WI – Today, Senator Brad Pfaff (D-Onalaska) joined his legislative colleagues at the Capitol for a special session to create a pathway for the citizens of Wisconsin to repeal the 1849 law that bans abortion in Wisconsin and includes no exceptions for abortion in the cases of rape or incest. Republican legislative leaders ended the session moments after it began without debate. After the special session, Senator Pfaff released the following statement:
“The people of Wisconsin deserve to have their voice heard. A majority of Wisconsinites support the freedom to access reproductive health care, but unfortunately, the Republican politicians who hold power in our legislature continue to ignore the will of the people. By rejecting public input and allowing this cruel and total abortion ban to stand, the rights and freedoms of Wisconsinites are being denied.”
“I will continue to fight like hell to make sure Wisconsinites have a seat at the table, so that we may repeal the 1849 law banning abortion, codify Roe v. Wade into law, and protect the freedom of people to make their own health care decisions.”
