De Pere, Wis.: Choua Xiong, who recently completed her Ph.D. dissertation at UW-Madison, will join St. Norbert College beginning in the spring semester as a post-doctoral diversity teaching fellow, the first position of its kind at St. Norbert.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Xiong to St. Norbert College,” said Jamie Lynch, co-chair of the selection committee, associate professor of sociology and director of the Strategic Research Institute at St. Norbert College. “Her commitment to understanding the challenges incoming students from diverse backgrounds face when entering higher education is directly connected to the mission of St. Norbert College. She also has the skills and experience to contribute to a unique pedagogical approach to the first-year experience,” Lynch said.

Xiong comes to St. Norbert as a fellow and grant recipient of prestigious organizations, including the UW-Madison Morgridge Center for Public Service; National Academy of Education (NAEd)/Spencer Dissertation Fellowship; Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA), Thailand; and Academic Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship (FLAS).

Xiong will teach courses in the teacher-education discipline and first-year seminar program and will engage in research and curricula initiatives on equity, diversity, inclusion and justice, including working with the Cassandra Voss Center (www.snc.edu/cvc/).
