In this morning’s debate, Fond du Lac County District Attorney and law enforcement’s choice for Attorney General, Eric Toney slammed Attorney General Josh Kaul on unfilled DCI and prosecutor positions, his failure to assign over 1,000 ICAC referrals, and his mismanagement of the crime labs.

Fond du Lac County District Attorney and law enforcement’s choice for Attorney General, Eric Toney, said:
“Public safety is the on the ballot in November and Wisconsin needs a prosecutor – not a politician – as our ‘top cop’ to end the historic violence and drug epidemic. As we’ve seen historic violence in Milwaukee and Wisconsin is experiencing record setting opioid deaths, together we will hold Josh Kaul accountable at the ballot box to keep families safe.
“It’s a sad reality when parents can’t feel safe in their homes, people can’t feel safe in their vehicles, and parents won’t let their children go to parks because they’re afraid of stray bullets. This is Milwaukee and this is Wisconsin and I refuse to accept this record violence as the new normal. That’s why I’ve said our Attorney General’s office needs to have original prosecution authority over Milwaukee County to take on the cases that they are unable or unwilling to prosecute. The sad reality during this historic violence is that our Attorney General has effectively defunded positions at the DOJ. As Attorney General, I will immediately begin filling any open DCI agent positions as well as prosecutor positions in our Criminal Litigation unit at the Department of Justice.
“In terms of the record setting opioid deaths – this was something our Attorney General campaigned on four years ago – hammering then Attorney General Brad Schimel – and it’s only gotten worse on Kaul’s watch as we’re seeing record opioid deaths with fentanyl killing kids in our streets.”
