MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Today, in the wake of the Water Street shooting last Friday in Milwaukee, Fond du Lac County District Attorney and law enforcement’s choice for Attorney General, Eric Toney, called on Governor Evers to immediately direct ARPA funds to the Milwaukee Police to address public safety concerns, called for the Office of the Attorney General to have original jurisdiction over Milwaukee, and said that we need to ensure that frontline prosectors are adequately paid.

Eric Toney released the following statement:
“Tony Evers has failed to address the rising crime in Milwaukee and Josh Kaul has been in lock step with him every step of the way. We are seeing historic violence and a drug epidemic, and I refuse to accept this as the new normal. We need an Attorney General who will make public safety their top priority. If we protect Milwaukee, we protect all of Wisconsin.

“That’s why I am calling on Governor Evers to immediately direct ARPA funds to the Milwaukee police to address public safety concerns. The governor has the ability to do this right now.
“I’m also calling for the the Office of the Attorney General to have original jurisdiction over Milwaukee.”

Toney added:

“Frontline prosecutors work tirelessly for justice with little pay. We need to ensure we are paying our prosecutors adequately.”

Representatives from the Milwaukee Police Association and the Wisconsin Fraternal Order of Police joined Toney for the press conference.
