[Fond du Lac, WI…] Fond Du Lac District Attorney Eric Toney, law enforcement’s choice for Attorney General, issued the following statement in response to Josh Kaul’s announced stance following the overturning of Roe v. Wade:  “Despite nearly four years of turning a blind eye to public safety at our Department of Justice Josh Kaul had the gall this week to say: “As Attorney General, my top priority is public safety, so let me be very clear about this. It does not serve the health or the safety of Wisconsinites to enforce a nineteenth-century abortion ban and we are not going to do it at the Wisconsin Department of Justice.”

“Wisconsinites will be surprised to learn of Josh Kaul’s sudden interest in public safety. Throughout his tenure as Attorney General, Wisconsin has endured historic violent crime and drug deaths as Kaul has politicized the DOJ and defunded police, defunded prosecutors, and mismanaged our crime labs. Kaul has failed at the primary mission of the ‘Top Cop’ and now he is failing at his obligation to enforce the rule of law by picking and choosing which laws he will or will not enforce.”

“This is why we need a prosecutor, not a politician, as Wisconsin’s ‘Top Cop’ that will enforce the rule of law and fight to keep our communities safe. The citizens in Milwaukee’s toughest neighborhoods, the communities being flooded with drugs, and crime victims everywhere deserve more than Josh Kaul’s empty political rhetoric that has contributed to historic violence and drug crime.”
