WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statement after voting “NO” on H.R. 5376, the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act”:

“In the face of record inflation and economic uncertainty, raising taxes and pushing new spending is the last thing we should do. We know reckless spending and overregulation led us to the painful point we are currently at, yet Democrats jammed this bill through, showering their special interests with taxpayer dollars, said Congressman Fitzgerald. Additionally, I cannot support funding for the IRS to hire 87,000 new agents who will target middle-class and low-income Americans with audits.”

BACKGROUND
The Inflation Reduction Act is a budget reconciliation bill that contains $745 billion in new spending, increases taxes by $599 billion, and gives away over $350 billion on “Green New Deal” initiatives.
