GREEN BAY, WI – Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today announced that he is now accepting nominations for Northeast Wisconsin’s 2022 Veteran of the Year. This is the second year Gallagher has solicited nominations for this award in an effort to honor a veteran in Northeast Wisconsin who continues to display exemplary service after they return home.
“Northeast Wisconsin is blessed with an incredibly engaged and service-minded veteran community. Nominating one of these heroes to be the Veteran of the Year is another way that you can thank him or her for their dedication to our country and their continued service to our community,” said Rep. Gallagher. “I look forward to learning more about each nominee and the work Northeast Wisconsin’s unsung heroes do every day.”
Last year, Rep. Gallagher received 40 nominations for the Veteran of the Year, which is a testament to the strength of the veterans community in Northeast Wisconsin. A committee ultimately selected Army National Guard Veteran Ryan Lonergan because of his work to support veterans as they transition back to civilian life.
Eligibility requirements for Veteran of the Year nominees:
- Must be a veteran of one of the five Armed Forces of the United States, including Reserve or National Guard, or United States Merchant Marines.
- Nominated Veterans must live within the Eighth Congressional District, which encompasses all of Brown, Calumet, Door, Kewaunee, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto, Outagamie, Shawano, and Waupaca Counties, as well as part of Winnebago County.
- Must be able to supply a DD-214.
The recipient of the Veteran of the Year Award will be selected based on:
- SERVICE: Demonstrate a commitment to service in their community. This could be through advocacy, community projects, an act of heroism, or other actions.
- EXCELLENCE: Provide an example of how this veteran exudes a spirit of excellence.
- DEDICATION: Demonstrate dedication to supporting their fellow veterans and building bridges between veterans and our greater Northeast Wisconsin community.
Applications will be accepted from October 11, 2022 to November 11, 2022 and will be reviewed in the month of November following the nomination deadline. The Veteran of the Year will be announced in December. Please contact Rep. Gallagher’s office in De Pere with questions, at 920-301-4500.
