GREEN BAY, WI – Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the following statement after the Chicago Teachers Union voted to return to remote learning and cancel in-person classes in Chicago.
“The Chicago Teachers Union should be ashamed of itself. The simple fact is remote learning is a joke and does more harm than good for our children. But when it comes to keeping kids in the classroom, it seems that the only people who don’t understand this are the teachers unions. Republicans and Democrats at all levels of government have to come together to ensure what’s happened in Milwaukee, Madison, and now Chicago doesn’t continue to happen in school districts across the country.”
Gallagher has long pushed to keep schools open. Earlier this week, he slammed Milwaukee and Madison’s school districts for taking similar steps to transition to remote learning through January 10.
