WASHINGTON, D.C.– Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the following statement in response to President Biden’s call for Congress to temporarily suspend the federal gas tax, which would do little to lower gas prices and further jeopardize the solvency of the Highway Trust Fund.
“Hardworking Americans are paying more than twice as much for gas today as they were when President Biden took office. But rather than take steps to lower the cost of energy, the President is once again pursuing a gimmick that will do little to ease the pain Americans are feeling at the pump and push the Highway Trust Fund closer to the brink of insolvency. Wisconsinites deserve better.
“The reality is that on day one, President Biden cancelled the Keystone Pipeline, appointed radicals to regulate the energy industry, and unleashed a war on American energy production that has helped put us in the position we are in today. If the President wants to take serious steps to help lower the cost of energy, he should drop the gas gimmicks, end his freeze on oil and gas leases, fast track permits for pipeline and energy development, and stop his crazy war on American energy producers.”
