WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the following statement after voting to fully fund the Department of Defense and voting against Democrats’ domestic spending bill that failed to unleash America’s energy potential.
“The crisis in Ukraine highlights two fundamental mistakes of President Biden’s foreign policy. First, sanctions alone do not deter thugs like Putin. Congress took long-overdue steps today to rectify this mistake by strengthening our defense posture in Europe and fully funding the Pentagon for the remainder of the fiscal year.
“While these were positive steps, Democrats still failed to learn from the Biden administration’s second critical mistake in this crisis: the belief that we can safely rely on authoritarian regimes for energy. The domestic spending bill House Democrats advanced today squanders an opportunity to address this problem by pouring funds into radical environmental justice grants and continuing to sacrifice American energy independence at the altar of the Green New Deal.
“Until we unleash America’s full energy potential, Congress will only continue to take one step forward and two steps back in our response to Putin’s war in Ukraine.”
