Washington, DC – Tonight, Rep. Ron Kind voted for overwhelmingly bipartisan legislation to take further steps to isolate Russia from the global economy and hold Putin accountable for his decision to invade Ukraine.

“The United States stands firmly with the people of Ukraine. To that end, I was proud to join my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and take action to ratchet up economic pressure on Putin and ban the import of Russian oil and energy products into our country,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “With tonight’s vote, we’re working to keep American dollars out of Putin’s hands and making it clear that we will not be a part of subsidizing his war. We must continue to do everything we can to coordinate with allies and hold Russia accountable for its unprovoked attack on Ukraine.”

This legislation will further weaken the Russian economy and Putin by:

  • Banning the import of Russian oil and energy products into the United States in order to cut off a major source of revenue for Putin
  • Taking steps to review Russia’s access to the World Trade Organization and continue to explore avenues to further diminish Russia in the global economy
  • Reauthorizing and strengthening the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act so that the United States can impose further sanctions on Russia
