“Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will provide much-needed real-world experience to the U.S. Supreme Court, having directly served the people, forgoing a career in corporate law to serve as a defense attorney and work on sentencing reform. She currently sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals and served for eight years as a federal trial court judge, where she established herself as an impartial and fair jurist.

Her legal experience includes serving as a public defender, giving legal representation to our most vulnerable members of society. This work is challenging and often comes with low pay, but she pursued it in order to work as she said, ‘in the trenches’ and gain valuable experience.

She also worked as vice chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, which has tackled the unfair sentencing disparities for crack offenses.

Her decision to use her skills and intellect to address inequities in law and support those with the least is a true testament to her character. It shows that she put the practice of service ahead of money and prestige which could have been afforded to her.

Judge Ketanji Brown’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court will make history and will be an incredible example and inspiration for women and girls of color.”
