WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01) released the following statement on President Biden’s visit to Wisconsin today.

“Our nation is facing multiple problems including rising violent crime, record high inflation, an open southern border, and now, global instability. Instead of addressing these challenges, President Biden is spending his day touting a massive government spending bill that passed last year. Considering our ever rising gas and home heating costs, it’s unfortunate that President Biden did not take this opportunity to focus on domestic energy infrastructure.”

Background:

President Biden traveled to Superior, WI, the day after his State of the Union Address, to discuss the $1.2 trillion spending bill passed into law in 2021.

Rep. Steil recently led a letter with Members of Congress from the Wisconsin delegation regarding new guidance released from the Department of Transportation on prioritization of funding.  On December 16, 2021, the U.S. Department of Transportation released a memo from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for the prioritization of funding under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The memo raises concerns for Republicans about state and local governments’ ability to delegate funding for infrastructure projects, tying the hands of local governments in making decisions on what projects will receive funding.
