KENOSHA, WI – Today, Congressman Bryan Steil (WI-01) presented Dr. Katherine Flynn, a Racine resident, with the 2022 Health Care Worker of the Year Award at Aurora Health in Kenosha. Dr. Flynn’s nomination noted her extensive work during her career helping veterans and cancer patients with mental health services. She works through the weekend to ensure she is not rushing her patients and gives them the time and attention they need and deserve. 

“Dr. Flynn has put her patient’s mental health first. Through her hard work, she ensures patients receive the time and attention they need. Protecting our nation’s mental health remains a top priority of mine. I am proud to present her with the 2022 Health Care Worker of the Year Award for her dedication and service to others.”

Background:

Recipients of this award were nominated by local Wisconsin citizens and selected by Wisconsin’s First Congressional District’s Health Care Advisory Board.  The Health Care Advisory Board is comprised of health care professionals across Southeast Wisconsin. The Health Care Advisory Board evaluated nominees on the following criteria:

  • SERVICE: Displays exemplary service and performance in their profession
  • DEDICATION: Goes above and beyond the call of duty in performing their responsibilities
  • SELFLESSNESS: Displays self-sacrifice and selflessness in caring for others

Congressman Bryan Steil has supported legislation to expand access to telehealth mental health services and introduced legislation to ensure the VA follows up with veterans who cancel their mental health appointments. During his time in Congress, Steil has hosted a roundtable focused on children’s mental health and sent letters to the CDC regarding suicide rates and protecting our youth’s mental health.
