MADISON, WI- Yesterday, Governor Evers, Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority CEO Elmer Moore Jr., and Members of the Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus kicked off Juneteenth at the Wisconsin State Capitol. On this, Representative Stubbs released the following statement:

“I want to first thank Governor Tony Evers for authorizing the flying of the Juneteenth flag on all state buildings for the third year in a row. For three years our governor has shown that Wisconsin stands for equity and that everyone deserves the right to succeed in our state. Flying this flag over the Wisconsin State Capitol shows that Wisconsin will keep moving forward, into a brighter and better tomorrow.”

“Juneteenth recognizes the sacrifices of African Americans through the American Civil War and the liberation of enslaved people in our country.  Juneteenth is about overcoming adversity and unifying against systemic injustices. We fly this flag today to remember the trials of yesterday and to commit ourselves to overcoming the trials of tomorrow.”

“We must always work towards building systems of equity, and dismantling systems of oppression. As we usher in Juneteenth 2022, I hope that we all remember the sacrifices that were made to create progress in our past and the important work that we have left to do.”
