Green Bay, Wis. — Thousands of students, teachers and parents will converge at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (Green Bay Campus) Saturday, April 9, 2022, for the 2022 Destination Imagination (DI) Wisconsin Affiliate Tournament.

Students from 8 to 18 will participate in the Destination Imagination Challenge Experience that includes six competitive Team Challenges that are rooted in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) concepts. Students form teams of up to seven members, select their preferred Challenge and work together to develop their Challenge solution. Teams have been working on their Challenge for months leading up to the tournament.

Teams are also required to engage in Instant Challenges, which require students to think under pressure to produce a solution on the spot.

Team Challenge solutions are presented in front of live audiences, while Instant Challenges are tackled confidentially. Both Team Challenge and Instant Challenge solutions are assessed by trained volunteer Appraisers. Scores for these components determine advancement to the next level of tournament. Teams that advance past Affiliate Tournaments will be invited to Global Finals in Kansas City, Missouri, in May.

Participants and their families will begin registration at 6:30 a.m. Ten Destination Imagination regions in Wisconsin will be represented at three grade levels: elementary, middle school and high school. As part of the Destination Imagination educational experience, Rising Stars or early learners in grades K-2 may participate non-competitively in any one of the ten Regional Tournaments throughout the state by showcasing their creative talents.

Competitions begin at 6:45 a.m. at Mary Ann Cofrin Hall (MAC Hall), Wood Hall, Rose Hall and the Brown County STEM Innovation Center on campus. Directions and campus maps are available on the website https://www.uwgb.edu/maps/green-bay/.

UW-Green Bay chancellor Michael Alexander welcomes competitors and guests to campus with the hope that their experience is “memorable and meaningful.”

UW-Green Bay and Destination Imagination are committed to providing new and exciting experiences for students that might help them bridge the gap between school and future careers with imagination and curiosity.
