Republican Derrick Van Orden released a new ad in his bid for the 3rd CD, slamming President Joe Biden for the Afghanistan withdrawal, during which 13 U.S. troops were killed.
The former Navy SEAL is running a second time for the seat of U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, D-La Crosse, who is retiring from Congress. This time around, he faces Sen. Brad Pfaff, D-Onalaska.
The TV and digital ad will run in La Crosse and Eau Claire. A spokesman with Van Orden’s campaign declined to say how much was spent on the buy.
The ad comes one year after the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. It shows video of Afghans trying to escape before American troops left the country and the Taliban took power. Van Orden says he was “disgusted” by the withdrawal and he’s “still pissed.”
“Biden’s failed America. Thirteen of my brothers and sisters are dead and thousands of Americans and our allies abandoned to the Taliban,” Van Orden says. “No one’s been held accountable. No one’s been fired. It’s not a partisan issue — it’s just wrong. And I will never apologize for defending American citizens.”
