MADISON – Yesterday, Congress reached a deal to reduce carbon emissions by close to 40 percent by 2030. Wisconsin Conservation Voters issued the following statement from Executive Director Kerry Schumann:

“We are excited to hear the news of a deal that adds climate investments to the reconciliation bill – investments that reduce carbon emissions by roughly 40 percent by 2030. We are eager to learn more about this potentially historic legislation.

The information we have now indicates this plan will help communities across Wisconsin continue to lower their energy costs and lead the effort to meet their commitments by incentivizing clean energy and transportation options. Wisconsin’s manufacturers and farmers will be part of the solution – a critical component for our state’s clean energy future.

As families are struggling with high gas prices, inflation, and devastating climate-fueled extreme weather, this is very welcome news.

We’ll be monitoring this news and diving deeper into the specifics as they are released. It’s important to understand how this can help shape a clean energy future for Wisconsin. Right now, we urge the Senate to pass cost-saving legislation that makes overdue investments in climate and clean energy, improves our energy security, creates good jobs, and builds a more affordable, healthy, just, and equitable future.

We also thank Sen. Tammy Baldwin for her unflagging commitment to address the climate crisis and bring clean energy and good paying jobs home to Wisconsin.”
