MADISON – Today, Pres. Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law, passing the largest investment in climate action in U.S. history. The Inflation Reduction Act puts the U.S. on the path to cutting climate pollution 40 percent by 2030, improves our energy security, creates good jobs, and builds a more affordable, healthy, just, and equitable future.
Executive Director Kerry Schumann had this to say about the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act:
“This is truly a momentous day. The Inflation Reduction Act is huge and historic, and is the strongest climate legislation in U.S. history. This legislation charts a path forward to reduce climate pollution in the United States by 40 percent by 2030, boost clean energy and energy security, and lower costs for families. Today is a historic victory – it promises a better future for our children and for generations to come.
At the same time, this bill unfortunately includes damaging provisions designed to benefit the still-too-powerful fossil fuel industry that could continue to harm Indigenous communities and communities of color along our Gulf and Alaskan coasts and elsewhere. Wisconsin Conservation Voters will stay in coalition with League of Conservation Voters and other state leagues to fight this and stop new drilling projects.
