WEST ALLIS, Wis. – The Wisconsin Dental Association today announced that Joe Mesec has joined the Association as Director of Government Services. In this position, he will manage the Association’s relationships with state lawmakers and regulators; oversee WDA actions on dental benefits, insurance and public health issues; and assist in directing activities of the WDA Political Action Committee (WIDPAC). He will also lead the WDA’s Madison team.

Mesec comes to the WDA after six years in the State Capitol, where he most recently served as a policy advisor to Assembly Majority Leader Rep. Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna). His experience also includes time as a research assistant and committee clerk for State Rep. Rob Swearingen (R-Rhinelander) and as a legislative aide for former State Rep. Thomas Weatherston (R-Caledonia).

An interest in dentistry runs in Joe’s family – his father, Dr. Charles Mesec of Burlington Family and Laser Dentistry, is a WDA member. Mesec worked in various roles for the family business, most notably as clinical operations manager at the practice until 2016.

“We are excited to have Joe join the WDA team in Madison,” WDA Executive Director Mark Paget said. “Not only does Joe have exceptional experience at the state government level, but his previous work at his family’s dental practice will prove to be incredibly valuable as he works on behalf of our 3,100 member dentists in Wisconsin. He will be an outstanding representative of the WDA’s non-partisan ‘Tooth Party.’”

Mesec, a resident of Middleton, holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Arizona State University. He is based in the WDA’s legislative office in Madison. His email is jmesec@wda.org and his phone number is 608-250-3442.
