Madison, Wis. — Wisconsin Gun Owners, Inc. (WGO)— Wisconsin’s only no-compromise gun rights organization — opposes in the strongest possible terms the newly passed Omnibus Spending Package, which contains dangerous gun control in the form of the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization.

WGO’s opposition to this bill stems from the criminalizing of NICS denials. Under the new legislation, law enforcement will be alerted if a person is denied via the NICS system, and possible criminal charges could be filed.

“Wisconsin must be the first state to nullify our participation in NICS,” said executive director Thomas Leager, “the newly passed VAWA verbiage included in the Omnibus bill poses an existential threat to gun rights by creating a chilling effect for law-abiding citizens who may be considering the purchase of a firearm.”

According to the FBI, 95 percent of NICS denials turn out to be false positives, so this new law would cause massive waste of LEO time and resources, as they will have to investigate every denial in the state. “As crime is sky-rocketing, the last thing that law enforcement in Wisconsin needs to be doing is investigating false NICS denials,” said Leager.

Also included in the bill is massive funding to create an army of ATF agents. With the ATF using secret rule-making processes, this spells disaster for gun owners. WGO is calling for the state legislature to act immediately to protect gun owners in Wisconsin before it recesses for the election season.

WGO has suggested the legislature draw up new 2A Sanctuary legislation to include state nullification of federal gun control (National Firearms Act 1934 and the Gun Control Act 1968), stop Wisconsin’s participation in the NICS system, and give Wisconsin law enforcement the ability to arrest ATF agents attempting to enforce unconstitutional federal gun control.
