Wisconsin Right to Life strongly supports and is encouraged by the introduction of the Heartbeat Act circulated today for co-sponsorship in the Wisconsin State Senate and Assembly.

Similar to legislation passed in Texas on September 1st, 2021, the Wisconsin Heartbeat Act would ensure that any practitioner who induces an abortion after detecting a fetal heartbeat would face civil liability and a medical board review.
According to Texas Right to Life, over 10,000 babies have been saved since the Heartbeat Act was signed into law in Texas on September 1st, 2021.

Ultrasound technology allows mothers to hear the beating of their child’s heart as early as six weeks. Furthermore, by six weeks, a baby’s brain and spinal cord have started to develop, blood vessels begin forming in the circulatory system, and the baby has begun to develop pain receptors.

The Wisconsin Heartbeat Act, if passed, would be a powerful step forward in ensuring the protection of all children, and furthers our mission of making abortion both illegal and unthinkable.”
