MADISON, Wis. – This morning, President Biden and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan announced that the Biden-Harris administration will allocate $1 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to fund projects that clean up and restore the Great Lakes’ most environmentally degraded sites.

These projects will address “Areas of Concern” around the Great Lakes and deliver significant environmental, economic, health, and recreational benefits for lakeside communities – including right here in Wisconsin. By 2030, the following clean up projects across the Badger State will be completed:

  • St. Louis River, MN and WI
  • Fox River, WI
  • Milwaukee Estuary, WI
  • Sheboygan, WI

The full list of impacted areas and anticipated dates of completion are listed here.

“These investments in Wisconsin’s Great Lakes communities reflect Democrats’ longstanding commitment to delivering clean drinking water and creating good-paying jobs,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler. “President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will do just that and spur economic growth – while tackling the climate crisis and ensuring a cleaner future for the state. Despite every Wisconsin Republican in Congress deliberately failing their constituents by voting against President Biden’s infrastructure plan, Wisconsin Democrats delivered this historic legislation for every neighborhood across the state.”
