MADISON, Wis. – Today, in celebration of National Agriculture Day, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement in support of the work Democrats are doing for Wisconsin’s farms:

“As we celebrate National Ag Day, we are reflecting with gratitude that President Biden, Governor Evers, and Democrats in Congress are building a stronger economy in every Wisconsin zip code—rural, urban, and suburban alike—and showing up powerfully for Wisconsin’s farmers. In the American Rescue Plan alone, Democrats have invested over $10 billion in programs that will strengthen our agricultural industry and build a better, more competitive America. Funds from Democrats’ rescue plan are making these industries more competitive by addressing supply chain disruptions for families and farmers, advancing equity in agriculture, investing in farmworker training, and many additional programs.

“At the state level, Gov. Evers has put Wisconsin’s agricultural industry at the forefront of his economic agenda. Today, Gov. Evers signed a bipartisan bill that will increase the value of Wisconsin’s dairy exports by 25 percent to lift up farms across the state. Additionally, in response to the pandemic, the governor has provided support to 20,000 farmers through his Farm Support Program and launched training programs to help fill agricultural jobs.

“Farmers in Wisconsin don’t want to be at the center of political games and partisan interests at the expense of their livelihoods. But that is all Republicans offer. Instead of investing in the farms and dairies that power Wisconsin’s economy, Republicans like Ron Johnson and Rebecca Kleefisch continue to push policies that will only hurt and hold back Wisconsin farmers. We need Democrats in office who will continue to invest in a long-term vision for Wisconsin agriculture.”
