MADISON, Wis. – After a weekend of extreme politics, the race to the bottom for the WisGOP gubernatorial nomination continued at the state convention. It appears that the chaos will not be ending any time soon: the Republican Party of Wisconsin chose not to endorse a single candidate ahead of the primary on August 9.

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement:

“Given the knives-out, unholy shambles of a GOP primary that we’ve seen so far, it is not a surprise that the Republican Party could not unite around a candidate. The vicious personal attacks between their candidates will continue to tear the GOP further apart. Rebecca Kleefisch, Tim Michels, Kevin Nicholson, and Tim Ramthun will continue to leapfrog one another as they race to the fringes of the Republican Party. All of these candidates have embraced conspiracy theories about our elections, vowed to sign voter suppression laws, support policies that would drastically raise property taxes, and have threatened to ban access to abortion.

“Wisconsinites want and deserve a governor who will bring people together and who will do the right thing for them. The Republican Party convention demonstrates that the only candidate who has earned Wisconsin’s trust in 2022 is Governor Tony Evers.”
