MADISON, Wis. – The trustees of Medicare and Social Security released their annual report and both programs are in better shape since President Biden took office. As further proof that President Biden’s economic agenda is working, the trustee report credits an “economic recovery from the 2020 recession has been stronger and faster than assumed.

Across the country and state, employment has rebounded following Donald Trump and Republicans’ failed leadership. Governor Evers and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan have brought Wisconsin’s unemployment rate to a historic low of 2.8%. Wisconsinites are getting back to work, with the state’s labor force participation rate at 66.5% – significantly higher than the national rate.

The difference couldn’t be more clear: while Democrats are leading an economic recovery and bolstering Medicare and Social Security, Republicans are heading into the 2022 elections with a plan that could sunset these life-saving programs. Wisconsin seniors have condemned the Republican agenda as a “slap in the face” and “terrifying,” as it could threaten the benefits and health care millions of Wisconsinites rely on.

“President Biden and Democrats are leading an economic recovery that is bolstering Medicare and Social Security – protecting millions of Wisconsinites’ hard-earned benefits,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Julia Hamelburg. “Meanwhile, Republican politicians have a plan that could sunset the programs – threatening the funds older Wisconsinites rely on to pay for doctor’s appointments, prescriptions, rent, and groceries. Simply put: Wisconsin seniors cannot afford the Republican agenda.”
