MADISON, Wis. – After Trump-era efforts to cut U.S. Postal Service (USPS) delivery, President Biden is preparing to sign the Postal Service Reform Act of 2022 – the most significant overhaul of the U.S. Postal Service in almost 20 years. This law will provide long overdue reforms to address the delays in mail delivery that came to light during this pandemic and will ensure more prompt delivery of everything from medication for seniors to household items for families.

The bill has received praise from a number of postal advocacy groups and the president of the American Postal Workers Union called the bill a “turning point in the fight to protect and strengthen the people’s public postal service, a national treasure.”

Despite ensuring the USPS is able to provide vital services for people across Wisconsin and passing the U.S. Senate with bipartisan support, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson and Representative Bryan Steil voted against this critical legislation.

Take a look at what Johnson and Steil voted against:

  • The bill will guarantee six-day delivery and ensure prompt delivery of everything from medication for seniors to household items for families, while ensuring on-time delivery for necessary bills that are paid through the mail.
  • The bill will allow USPS to work with state, local, and Tribal governments to provide public services, such as hunting and fishing licenses, which in turn will help USPS bring in additional revenue.
  • The bill reinforces transparency by creating a public “dashboard” on the USPS website, which will publish weekly performance data. This data will allow the USPS to pinpoint zip codes experiencing consistent diminished service performance – ensuring that additional support and services are allocated to those areas.
