MADISON, Wis. – The Department of Workforce Development announced record low unemployment in Wisconsin for the month of March at 2.8%, decreasing from 2.9% unemployment in February.

Wisconsin’s economic success is continuing thanks to the leadership of Governor Evers, who has worked to find common sense solutions that help families and businesses not only recover, but end up in a better position than they were before the pandemic.

Wisconsin’s record-low unemployment comes as the governor continues to support small business growth and solutions to fill jobs across the state. Gov. Evers launched the Main Street Bounceback program to revitalize Main Streets across the state, which has already helped over 3,400 businesses open or expand. He also invested $130 million in workforce development programs to help find career coaches and fund training programs and technical colleges.

Today, more Wisconsinites are working than ever before. Wisconsin’s labor force participation rate was 66.5% in March, significantly higher than the national rate.

Meanwhile, instead of celebrating Wisconsin’s economic success, Rebecca Kleefisch continues to deny the state’s record-low unemployment rate. She recently told students at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater that, “You know, there are a lot of people who go around celebrating 2.9% unemployment. It’s amazing. It’s a modern miracle. No, it’s not. It’s a rigged number.”

“Governor Evers is doing the right thing and building an economy that works for everyone in Wisconsin,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Hannah Menchhoff. “Thanks to the governor’s leadership, Wisconsin’s economy is growing, small businesses are opening and expanding, and our state is stronger than it was when he took office.”
