MADISON, Wis. – Today, President Biden is calling on Congress to pass a three month federal gas tax holiday as part of his efforts to lower inflated gas prices caused by Putin’s price hike. This action comes on the heels of Governor Evers issuing an executive order that bars gas stations from price gouging.

Democrats’ decisive action to lower prices at the pump stands in stark contrast to Wisconsin Republicans in Congress who have repeatedly voted against measures that would help lower gas prices and combat inflation. In the past few months, Wisconsin Republicans have voted against bills to prevent gas price gouging, address the infant formula shortage, cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month, and more.

“Wisconsin Republicans’ voting history speaks for itself: it’s clear that Representatives Steil, Fitzgerald, Grothman, Tiffany, and Gallagher care more about inflicting their extreme, ultra-MAGA agenda than joining Democrats in finding solutions to lower costs for families across our state,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Julia Hamelburg.

Just last week, every Wisconsin Republican in Congress voted against the Lower Food & Fuel Costs Act which would lower costs by:

  • Increasing competition in the meat and poultry industries to prevent artificially high pricing
  • Making E15 fuel available year-round and encouraging production of biofuels
  • Making fertilizer more accessible to farmers to help lower produce costs
  • Creating a supply chain task force
