Self-serving millionaire Ron Johnson worked overtime in the Senate to change the 2017 GOP tax scam bill in a way that benefitted himself and his biggest donors with hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks. Now, new reporting revealed he’s opposed to helping lower child care costs for Wisconsin families.

The American Independent: “And though Johnson does not believe it is society’s problem to help parents who can’t otherwise afford it organize day care for their children so they can earn a living, he has fought to cut taxes for himself and other millionaires. In 2017, he voted for former President Donald Trump’s Tax Cut and Jobs Act, which cut taxes for the very rich and corporations and added nearly $2 trillion to the national debt over a decade, according to a 2018 Congressional Budget Office estimate.”

Heartland Signal: “At a press conference Tuesday, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) justified his opposition to the government funding child care by saying it’s something people ‘need to consider’ when they ‘decide’ to become parents…’Ron Johnson, who has spent his time in Washington doubling his multi-million dollar fortune by giving himself tax breaks, doesn’t care about Wisconsin’s working families or their children,’ the official Wisconsin Democratic Party Twitter account tweeted in response to the video.”

Business Insider: “Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson argued against government efforts to make child care cheaper for parents during a visit on Tuesday to Kwik Trip’s headquarters in La Crosse. ‘People decide to have families and become parents. That’s something they need to consider when they make that choice,” Johnson told local Wisconsin TV station WKBT. ‘I’ve never really felt it was society’s responsibility to take care of other people’s children.’”

Newsweek: “Republican Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, who opposes greater abortion access, has said that the government shouldn’t fund child care. ‘People decide to have families,’ Johnson recently told the news station WKBT.”

Mediaite: “In Wisconsin, it must not take a village. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) told WKBT in La Crosse…he opposes a government role in helping parents find childcare.”
