MADISON, Wis. — The Republican Party has finally voted on their pick for the most divisive and extreme nominee for governor: Tim Michels. Michels is Donald Trump’s handpicked candidate, and has said overturning the results of the 2020 election would be “on the table.”

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement:
“Tim Michels is radical and wrong for Wisconsin. Just like in his failed 2004 Senate run, Michels has embraced the most extreme positions on every issue. In order to win the primary, he pandered shamelessly to Donald Trump and the radical right—putting him far out of touch with the vast majority of Wisconsinites.
“As governor, Michels wants to ban abortion without exceptions for rape and incest, outlaw same sex marriage, defund public education, allow 18 year olds to have access to assault weapons with no waiting period, and restrict the right to vote. His dangerous policies will hurt Wisconsinites and divide communities.
“Wisconsinites have a clear choice in November—a future where extremist policies rule the day, or a future where our state continues to be guided by common-sense leadership. Democrats are energized and excited to re-elect Governor Evers, who will always do the right thing for our state.”
