MADISON, Wis., — Today, in honor of National Transgender Day of Visibility, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement:

“March 31 marks National Transgender Day of Visibility, a time to not only honor and celebrate transgender trailblazers and activists, but also acknowledge the work that still needs to be done to support and care for the transgender and non-binary community, in Wisconsin and across the county.

“This year’s Day of Visibility is timely. There is nothing more personal to us than our identity, and everyone deserves the freedom to live as their true selves. And yet, here in Wisconsin and across the country, Republican politicians are seeking to insert themselves into these very personal, private matters with legislation to interfere in high school athletics and deny gender affirming medical care. In a state of more than 5 million people, these Republican politicians are shamefully singling out private citizens in an effort to win elections through fear and division.

“It’s important we call the Republican campaign against the transgender community what it is: bullying. At the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, we’ll always stand up to bullies, and we’ll never stop uplifting and supporting our transgender community. To all those questioning whether they belong, we see you, we love you, and you have a place here in the Wisconsin we’re building together.”
