MADISON, Wis. – Today, the U.S. Department of Labor announced that 431,000 new jobs were added to our country’s economy last month, while the unemployment rate fell to 3.6 percent. After eleven straight months of job growth above 400,000 and a new pandemic-era low unemployment rate, it’s clear that President Biden’s economic agenda is working. The American Rescue Plan, which passed without the vote of a single Republican in Congress, continues to propel a historic economic recovery that is building the middle-class from the bottom up and the middle out.
Across our country and state, folks are getting safely back to work. Thanks to strong leadership from Gov. Evers, Wisconsin’s unemployment rate remains at a historic low and the state has one of the highest labor force participation rates in the country.
In response to this strong jobs report, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Julia Hamelburg released the following statement:
“Thanks to President Biden, Gov. Evers, and Democrats in Congress lowering costs for families, Wisconsinites are getting back to work and spurring economic growth in our state and across the country.
“Yet, while Democrats build a better America, the Republican Party continues to stand against working families at every turn. Every single Republican in Congress voted against the American Rescue Plan and, just last night, every single Wisconsin Republican in Congress voted against capping insulin costs. The Republican Party has made their agenda clear: raise taxes on half of the country, gut health care protections for Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions, and value their wealthy donors over the families they’re supposed to represent.”
