MADISON, Wis. — Top advisors to Wisconsin Republicans are under investigation for attempting to overthrow the 2020 election. The select House committee investigating the deadly Jan. 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol subpoenaed former Wisconsin GOP chairman Andrew Hitt, a major supporter of Rebecca Kleefisch and Adam Jarchow, and Kelly Ruh, who has been a top advisor to Kleefisch, for submitting a false slate of Electoral College voters in the 2020 election.

Hitt has donated thousands to Kleefisch’s campaign for governor and was previously announced as the chair of Jarchow’s campaign for attorney general. Ruh, a Republican activist, also served as a key advisor of Kleefisch as a member of the leadership board of the 1848 Project.

These subpoenas follow a disturbing pattern of Kleefisch and Jarchow failing to stand with the will of the people and protect our democracy. Kleefisch has repeatedly supported attempts to make it more difficult for eligible voters to participate in elections and suggested that she would be open to allowing the legislature to overturn the results of a statewide election. Jarchow has pledged not to prosecute anyone, including his campaign chair, for their involvement in submitting the false slate of electors.

“If Rebecca Kleefisch and Adam Jarchow were concerned about protecting the will of the people and defending our democracy, they wouldn’t want anything to do with this scheme to submit fake voters to the Electoral College,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin interim executive director Devin Remiker. “Sadly, Wisconsin Republicans will do anything they can do to divide our state as long as it benefits them politically. It’s time for Rebecca Kleefisch and Adam Jarchow to speak out against this shameful attempt to somehow overturn the results of the 2020 election.
