MADISON, Wis. – Today, the U.S. Department of Labor announced that an impressive 467,000 new jobs were added to our country’s economy last month and that nearly 7 million jobs were added in 2021. Thanks to the Biden-Harris administration’s economic and public health policies, our country is seeing a drop in unemployment and childhood poverty – further proving that President Biden is leading an economic recovery that is getting folks back to work and rebuilding the middle-class from the bottom up and the middle out.

Here in Wisconsin, our state continues to benefit from the steadfast leadership of Governor Evers and his implementation of Democrats’ American Rescue Plan. Thanks to Gov. Evers, Wisconsin’s unemployment rate is at a historic low of 2.8% and the state has one of the highest labor force participation rates in the nation.

In response to this strong jobs report, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Julia Hamelburg released the following statement:

“President Biden continues to lead a record-breaking recovery that is not only creating millions of jobs but creating millions of good-paying jobs. By passing the American Rescue Plan to get shots in arms and people back to work, Democrats are leading the strongest economic recovery in U.S. history, delivering higher wages and safer working conditions, and tackling supply chain bottlenecks to help Main Street businesses recover faster. Every Republican who voted against the American Rescue Plan has stood in the way of this recovery, and they must answer to their constituents for why they’ve failed to put politics aside to put an end to this pandemic.

“While there is still more work to be done as we combat new variants of COVID-19, families across the country are in good hands as President Biden, Governor Evers, and Democrats remain laser-focused on building our country and state back better.”
