MADISON, Wis. – By investing billions of federal dollars in our country’s ports and airports, President Biden and Wisconsin Democrats are strengthening supply chains from ship to shore – lowering costs for working families, supporting Wisconsin-owned businesses, and building climate-resilient infrastructure.
As these projects begin to receive funding from both President Biden’s infrastructure plan and Democrat’s American Rescue Plan, Wisconsinites across the state are reading about how President Biden and Governor Evers are investing in their communities:
WDIO: $19M in infrastructure bill funding headed to port
“The Port of Duluth-Superior isn’t welcoming any ships these days, but it will welcome some cash. The Army Corps of Engineers announced the port will receive $19 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which President Joe Biden signed into law in November.

“The money will be split between two projects. The Port Authority says $13 million will be used for dock wall reconstruction in the Corps of Engineers vessel yard on the Duluth Harbor Basin/Superior Bay side of Park Point. The other $6 million is earmarked for dredging from Erie Pier.”

“A big increase in cruise ships docking at Port Milwaukee is bringing around $6 million in improvements to help accommodate that traffic.
“And a major piece of that funding will be a $3.5 million grant to help expand maritime infrastructure for larger cruise ships, Gov. Tony Evers announced Thursday.

“Port Milwaukee estimates it will host at least 10,000 cruise ship passengers in 2022. That compares to 3,000 in 2019 and less than 1,000 in 2018.

“The port’s grant is part of $21.9 million awarded to 27 local governments and organizations through the Tourism Capital Investment Grant Program, according to the governor’s office.
“That program is funded by the federal American Rescue Plan Act.”
