MADISON, Wis. – Yesterday, President Biden outlined the steps the Biden-Harris administration is taking to address Putin’s price hike at the gas pump. This two-part plan will ease the pain American families are feeling from Putin’s war of choice by increasing the supply of oil and achieving lasting American energy independence. President Biden’s announcement comes as Ron Johnson and Republicans have falsely tried to point blame at Democrats for increased gas prices.
The first part of President Biden’s plan is to immediately increase the oil supply in the U.S. by encouraging domestic production and coordinating a historic release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. That means releasing on average one million additional barrels on the market per day – every day – for the next six months. This record release will provide a historic amount of supply to serve as a bridge until the end of the year as President Biden continues pushing for domestic production to ramp up.
The second part of the president’s plan is to achieve American energy independence by moving towards an American-made, clean energy future. The Biden-Harris administration has already introduced a roadmap of 100 actions this year that will save American families $100 annually through more efficient home appliances and new standards for cars and trucks that will save drivers money at the pump.
