MADISON, Wis. – Today, just days after a leaked draft outlined the Supreme Court’s plan to strike down Roe v. Wade, Wisconsin Democrats and legislators rallied at the Wisconsin State Capitol to protest Republicans’ attacks on abortion. If this draft decision were to become law, nearly all abortions in Wisconsin would be illegal.

At every level – from Ron Johnson to Robin Vos to Rebecca Kleefisch – Republican politicians have waged a full-scale assault against health care in Wisconsin. Speakers highlighted how harmful these attacks are, how high the stakes are for reproductive health care in 2022, and the importance of re-electing Gov. Evers and firing Ron Johnson in November.

At the event, Dr. Emily Buttigieg – a Wisconsin OB-GYN who specializes in women’s health care – blasted Johnson and state Republicans for their continuous attacks on health care:

  • “Throughout medical school and residency, my training focused on how to provide patients with the best possible care based on medically accurate information and evidence. And yet, I’m here today because at least five Supreme Court justices have decided the fate of people’s health based on an agenda steeped in politics, not facts.”
  • “If [Ron Johnson and Wisconsin Republicans] get their way nearly any abortion performed in Wisconsin will be illegal, and patients will suffer and die. I’ve watched over the past decade as anti-abortion politicians have been using inflammatory, deceptive, and cruel language to pass laws that limit or ban abortion care. This level of political interference is unacceptable. It threatens the sacred patient-physician relationship and prevents patients from receiving the best care available.”
