A recent report from The Washington Examiner shows that New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been racking up fines for her overdue taxes in New York for over 5 years. Since AOC’s endorsement of Senate candidate Mandela Barnes, it has become increasingly clear that AOC and Barnes have a lot more in common than just their radical policies. Barnes also has a history of being delinquent on his taxes:
- In 2018, Barnes did not pay any income tax while campaigning for Lt. Governor.
- In 2019, Barnes said that “the powerful and privileged [should] pay their fair share in taxes,” but that same year he was penalized for failing to pay at least $2,225 in property taxes on his Milwaukee condo.
- In 2020, Barnes was delinquent again on his property taxes, which amounted in interest and penalties.
“Mandela Barnes and AOC are quick to pile on more taxes for their constituents, but don’t even bother to pay their own. It’s shocking, and a slap in the face to the hardworking people they claim to represent.” – Republican Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Mike Marinella
