Hi this is Senator Melissa Agard with this week’s Democratic Radio Address.
Child care is essential for the success of our workers and our economy. Without reliable, quality, safe child care options, working families in every community in Wisconsin are left scrambling for options.
The pandemic hit child care centers hard, but thanks to federal funding and the quick, effective actions of the Evers administration, most were able to withstand these challenging times.
Child care centers are facing a fiscal cliff when federal funding runs out at the end of the year, but thankfully Governor Evers understands how important addressing this crisis is for the health of our economy.
In his budget, the governor plans to include more than $340 million to continue funding the Child Care Counts program, which helps fund more than 3,000 child care centers all around our state.
Inaction by Republicans will severely hurt businesses, limiting the number of workers available.
Once again Governor Evers and Democrats are stepping up for our kids and families to find solutions to our workforce crisis.
Thank you.
