June has arrived. The sun is out, the temperatures are up, and it’s officially dairy month in Wisconsin.

Hi, I’m State Senator Patrick Testin from Stevens Point, and I serve on the committee responsible for writing the state’s budget. Today I want to talk about the investments legislative Republicans are making in our farmers and in our environment.

A healthy supply chain helps farmers and consumers alike. That’s why we’re including funding increases for our dairy processor and meat processor grants. We’re also stepping up marketing of our agricultural exports. Wisconsin farmers feed the world, and more markets abroad means more money coming back into our communities.

It’s important that we be good stewards of our environment; that’s why we’re working with farmers to improve water and soil quality by increasing funding for producer-led watershed protection grants. With increased investments in dam safety, flooding controls, and clean wells –it’s clear that clean water will remain a top priority in this budget.

Our farmers do a lot to drive our state’s economy – and June presents us with unique and fun ways to show our appreciation. I know I’ll be attending several county dairy breakfasts, and I’d encourage everyone listening to do the same.
